Student leadership sits at the heart of the Sixth Form experience at Highsted Grammar. Our aim is to nurture confident, responsible, and outward-looking young people who are ready to contribute positively both within the school community and beyond it. The opportunities available to our students allow them to shape school life, develop crucial skills, and act as inspiring role models for younger pupils.
One of the most prestigious and meaningful leadership pathways is the Head Girl Team. Students who take on these roles embody the values of the school, representing the student voice and supporting key events throughout the year. Whether speaking at whole-school assemblies, coordinating student-led initiatives, or working closely with staff on areas of school development, members of the Head Girl Team play a vital part in shaping the culture and direction of the school.
Alongside this, our House Captains play an important role in strengthening the school’s sense of community and belonging. They organise house events, lead fundraising activities, and encourage participation across all year groups. Their leadership is crucial in creating a positive, inclusive, and spirited school atmosphere where every student feels they have a place and a voice.
The Sixth Form also offers a wide range of opportunities to lead through our extensive network of student led societies. These societies—ranging from academic clubs to creative, cultural, and wellbeing groups—are founded and run by Sixth Form students themselves. Society Leaders take responsibility for organising meetings, planning events, and encouraging participation from across the school. This not only promotes the intellectual and personal interests of our students, but also helps to form a vibrant, engaging school life that reflects the passions and strengths of the student body.
Leadership in the Sixth Form is not limited to formal titles. Every student has the opportunity to lead in their own way—whether by mentoring younger pupils, supporting school events, contributing to collaborative projects, or simply demonstrating maturity and kindness in their daily interactions. We believe strongly that leadership is developed through action, influence, and example, and we are proud of the many Sixth Form students who demonstrate these qualities every day.
Through these various roles, students gain valuable experience that builds confidence, communication skills, and resilience. These opportunities help prepare them for the demands of university, apprenticeships, and future careers, while also encouraging them to develop a strong sense of responsibility and community.
Student leadership is an integral part of what makes our Sixth Form such a dynamic and empowering place to study. We are proud to offer a range of leadership pathways that allow students to make meaningful contributions, grow as individuals, and leave a lasting legacy within the school.
