Head of Sixth Form Introduction

Welcome to the Sixth Form at Highsted Grammar. As Assistant Headteacher and Head of Sixth Form, it is a privilege to work with our dedicated students and staff in what is one of the most exciting stages of a young person’s educational journey.

Throughout my career, I have predominantly taught in all-girls settings, an environment in which I have seen students thrive academically, socially, and personally. I have also taught in mixed schools at various points, which has broadened my experience and strengthened my belief in the importance of creating a supportive, aspirational, and inclusive environment for all learners. However, working with young women and helping them build confidence, independence, and leadership remains at the heart of my professional passion.

Our Sixth Form is a vibrant, ambitious, and closely connected community. Students in both Year 12 and Year 13 quickly come to appreciate that the Sixth Form is not only a place for academic development but also an opportunity to grow as individuals, establish future goals, and take on new challenges. From the moment they join, students work closely with our experienced team of form tutors who provide guidance, encouragement, and pastoral support. These relationships are essential in helping every student feel valued and equipped to succeed.

A defining feature of our Sixth Form is the role our students play within the wider school. They are leaders, ambassadors, and role models – young people who set the tone for the rest of the school community. Whether through mentoring younger students, contributing to school events, or simply demonstrating maturity and responsibility in their day-to-day interactions, their influence is felt across the whole school. We are immensely proud of the example they set and the positive impact they make.

My vision for the Sixth Form is to foster an environment in which academic excellence and personal wellbeing go hand in hand. Success, in my view, is about more than examination outcomes – though these are undeniably important. It is also about developing resilience, confidence, curiosity, and the ability to navigate the world beyond school. We aim to prepare our students not only for university and apprenticeships, but also for the challenges and opportunities of adult life.

Working in partnership with families is a key part of this process. By maintaining strong communication and shared expectations, we can support each student to reach their full potential and make the most of all the opportunities available to them here.

I am proud to lead a Sixth Form that champions aspiration, celebrates individuality, and encourages every student to become the very best version of themselves.

Louise Porter-Barnett (Assistant Headteacher, Head of Sixth Form)

A-level Outcomes

Our A-level results reflect the dedication, ambition, and resilience of our students, as well as the commitment of our staff. Year after year, our Sixth Form achieves exceptionally high academic standards, and we are justifiably proud of the outstanding outcomes our students secure across a wide range of subjects.

These results not only demonstrate academic excellence but also highlight the strong work ethic, depth of subject understanding, and determination that characterise our Sixth Form community. The achievements shown throughout the school and illustrated across this website represent the collective effort of students, staff, and families working in partnership to support each young person to fulfil their potential.

We are delighted to share our recent A-level performance data, which continues to place our students among the highest achievers nationally. Please follow this link to read about the success of our Class of 2025 in the summer A-level examinations.
