Mental Health Update
In September 2019 Highsted launched, Wrapped Round Services to students, to ensure health and wellbeing are key priorities in a student’s development. Throughout a student’s school life they may experience times where they have, increased levels of stress, anxiety, low self-esteem or difficulty making and maintaining friendships. Highsted’s Wrapped Round Services were designed to keep a student’s health and wellbeing at the heart of their development. It provides students with the skills and support to maintain a positive mental health. Highsted engages with Headstart and other external agencies to support students across year groups.
Students are at the heart of Highsted’s Wrapped Round Services.

Vertical tutoring at Highsted enables students from Years 7-13 to experience daily peer support on their journey through Highsted. New Year 7 students are allocated a ‘Buddy’ to support transition and progress. With a pastoral team consisting of a Tutor, a Head of House, a Learning Mentor and an Assistant Headteacher, there are many individuals to support a Highsted student along their journey.
September 2020 saw the launch of the Peer Mentor Programme, a selected group of student mentors from all years, with the mantra, ‘we rise by lifting others.’ The support is based in the Erlangen suite, a safe place designed as part of the Headstart initiative within school.
Support for mental wellbeing is a key part of our Education for Life Programme, from activities in Year 7 to 11, opportunities span across year groups to develop a positive wellbeing. From inspirational speakers such as Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu, to organisations such as Wise-up to help students build confidence in communication, there is a vast array on offer.
