Vacancies & Employment-based Teacher Training

At Highsted Grammar School we are proud to offer career opportunities for adults as well as students. In addition to teaching posts, there are a wide range of support posts which fall vacant from time to time. Information about all our current vacancies can be found below. If there are no opportunities that suit your ambitions at present, but you would like to be considered for suitable appointments in the future, we are happy to receive your CV, together with a short letter of application stating your experience and areas of interest.

Likewise, we recognise the importance of excellence in the training future teachers and, with more than a decade of exceptional experience in employment-based training programmes, are pleased to offer opportunities for postgraduate trainees. We work in collaboration with the Kemnal Academies Trust (TKAT) to provide both salaried and unsalaried positions which lead to Qualified Teacher Status. Salaried positions are paid on the Unqualified Teacher Pay Scale; unsalaried posts may be eligible for a government bursary, depending on the teaching subject and class of degree achieved. Teaching Staff Vacancies:

Head of Year – MPS/UPR plus TLR 2c
Closing date: Noon, Wednesday 6 May 2026

We are seeking to appoint a Head of Year to join our existing team from September 2026. Applications will be considered from teachers of any subject with the skills to lead on our well-established compassion curriculum. We are looking for a teacher who has a passion for their subject/s, a desire to pass it on to students and the ability to combine this with excellent classroom practice.

You would be part of a dynamic team and dealing with behaviour issues using the established Girls on Board approach, supporting students’ emotional wellbeing and monitoring reporting procedures. This is a challenging role, whilst also being one of the most rewarding. The successful candidate would be responsible for the care and guidance of one year group with up to 150 students.

Support Staff Vacancies:

Invigilators – Casual (paid on claim)
Highsted Academy Trust pay rates: £12.21 per hour, increasing to £12.71 per hour from April 2026
Closing date: Noon, Monday 20 April 2026

We are looking for enthusiastic, reliable, flexible and organised individuals to join our Examinations Invigilation Team. The main purpose of this role is to supervise internal and external examinations, ensuring that guidelines and regulations for the integrity and security of procedures are followed during examination sessions. Duties include the following:

  • ensuring JCQ and awarding body regulations are followed during both internal and external examinations;
  • being vigilant for instances of malpractice, and report concerns to the Examinations Officer;
  • distribution and collection of examination papers;
  • maintaining awareness of any needs that candidates may have during an examination; and
  • ensuring that no inappropriate/forbidden items are brought into an examination room.

Experience of working with young people would be an advantage but specific training will be given to successful candidates. Hours are variable depending upon the examinations timetable.

 Trainee Teacher posts are normally offered as unsalaried positions, for which a government bursary or scholarship up to the value of £31,000 may be payable. For further information about eligibility and current value of the government’s initital teacher training bursary scheme, please follow this link.
