Seacole 2 Rise to Franklin’s Challenge for Mencap

Franklin House’s Grammar School Challenge – a charity event to raise money for the learning disability charity Mencap – reached its dramatic climax in March when the final two rounds of the competition took place between S2 and C2 during whole school assemblies.  In a nail-biting conclusion to the general knowledge team quizzes, the results from each final were added together, making S2 the winners by only two points.  Winning team member Katie P said: “I took part in this event, and competed against C2 and won. 27/04/2016

Highsted’s big-league success

Highsted Grammar School has been revealed to be one of the top 100 schools in England based on A-level results for the summer of 2015.  The league table published in the Daily Telegraph draws on figures provided by the Department for Education (DfE), and shows Highsted to be in 92nd position, with an average points score per student of 1017.6 (compared to 1419.1 for the top-scoring school, Colyton Grammar School) - the equivalent of three A* grades - and an average point score per exam of 222.1 (compared to 253.6 for Colyton). 09/03/2016

Poet Laureate at Highsted

The national Poet Laureate, Carol Ann Duffy, inspired a 200-strong audience of school children and members of the local community at a special event hosted by Highsted Grammar School on 13th November.  Accompanied by the musician and composer John Sampson, who complemented the power of the poetry with musical interludes and underscoring featuring a number of early music instruments, Ms Duffy began with a poem from her popular collection The World’s Wife: Mrs Midas. 27/11/2015
